to programs and services
One of the primary goals of Arc, South Florida
is to protect and insure the rights of all individuals with
developmental and other disabilities. We do this on an individual,
group, community, state and national level. In addition,
we have programs and services designed to support each person
in an independent meaningful life by providing skills, education
and the opportunity for social interaction and self-advocacy.
Arc, South Florida focuses on Advocacy by actively working
at both the local, state and national levels on behalf of
people with developmental disabilities and against any kind
of discrimination or violation of civil rights. These activities
begin at the grassroots level with those who are most affected
by these laws, and extend to members of the state legislature
who are encouraged to pass legislation that advances equal
rights and equal opportunities. Arc continues to act as
the voice for all persons with mental retardation and other
disabilities in South Florida.

When people with disabilities and their family members find
it difficult to make important decisions it becomes necessary
to seek help to ensure that the individual’s rights are protected.
The courts are very aware of this need and will appoint a
guardian to act on behalf of the person with the disability
to assist him or her in making informed decisions. Arc, South
Florida will bring this service to Broward County in the near
future.

A number one goal for most people with disabilities is to
achieve and/or maintain an independent lifestyle. Arc’s supported
living program offers people with disabilities the opportunity
to move towards independence, while still having the close
guidance and support of a trained and caring supported living
coach.
Our Supported Living services are based entirely on the
individual’s need and are provided accordingly. We strive
to maximize independence, create opportunities for improved
self-direction, to develop self-advocacy skills and to develop
and strengthen decision making and problem solving skills.
Secondary services include hands on training in daily living
skills, shopping, money management, household maintenance,
social interaction and transportation.

If we can’t serve your needs or answer your questions, our
information and referral professionals will take the time
